Trout Traffic Accidents

Why it's so hard for trout to
get over the falls
Here is what would have been a perfect
leap. But the trout landed head forward with it's tail uselessly finning the air. While
this condition lasts only a fraction of a second, it is all it takes for the current to
take control away from the fish. This is why they must land flawlessly parallel to the
water. If they do, the current passes right around their bodies reducing drag, and most
importantly, they can instantly use their tails to power them up the current. Without the
use of their tails they will not make it.
