On average it takes each trout about 15 to 18 attempts to successfully climb the falls. Some make it on less, others never make it at all. It takes a surprisingly precise leap combined with perfect timing for the fish to make it past the falls. Watching trout repeatedly leap at the roaring waterfall gives one a deep respect and admiration for these determined creatures! On several occasions when we were photographing these trout people on the bank would cheer and clap each time a trout made it over the falls. Spend an hour watching them and you soon learn why!
