Why it's so hard for trout to get over the falls

brown trout dry run creek

Ouch! A fine example of what happens when a trout jumps right through the falls and hits the rocks behind it. Notice the other trout swimming up the fall. He got the right angle and therefore did not suffer the same crash as this male brown. When trout hit the rocks you hear it as a loud slap, like a face slap. The crowd always moans an "ooooohhhhh!" when they see and hear the trout hit the wall.
