Why it's so hard for trout to get over the falls

Dry Run Creek Norfork Arkansas

After several spirited leaps without success a trout just plain gets tired! This high-flying female is too tired to keep her body well controlled. She'll go rest in a quiet backwater for awhile, then try again. Notice the huge brown trout in the waterfall stream right under her. Not even a fish this size can swim from the bottom to the top. It's not so much they are not strong enough, but rather that they can't get enough "traction" in the thin water of the fall stream.
