A "Value-Added" Fishing
Service 65 Years in the Making
Whether you prefer bait fishing, spin fishing, or fly fishing, whether it's for
individuals, families, groups, or corporate outings, we have a program that fits your
needs. Beginner or pro, man, woman, or child, we're prepared to serve you. Here's why!
A happy group from the 1950's . . .
Hurst Fishing Service was established in 1933, 18 years before
the Bull Shoals Dam was completed. We have watched the Arkansas White River go from a
fishery inhabited by warm water species like bass to the fine, well-managed cold water
trout fishery it is today. Over those last 65 years we have guided thousands of customers
through exciting day-long float trips and adventure-filled overnight camping float trips.
Like the White River itself, we have changed and grown with the times too.
Today we believe that an enjoyable trip on the White river is a
blend of many elements - like comfortable, clean equipment - and fishing guides who know
as much about safety, river history, and wildlife as they do about catching trout in any
conditions. The result is a smooth, safe trip filled with entertaining action on several
fronts, from fishing to area lore. It takes practice and effort to reach this level of
perfection, and we have worked at it for 65 years. That's why you receive more
value-per-dollar when you book a trip with Hurst!
Hurst Fishing Service sits right on the east bank of the beautiful Arkansas White River.
We are three miles upstream and north from Cotter, Arkansas, and one mile off of U.S.
Highway 62, on County Road #1, a paved road leading to our operation. Cotter is on the
White River, 12 miles west of Mountain Home and 40 miles east of Harrison, Arkansas. We
are 235 miles west of Memphis, Tennessee, 270 miles south of Kansas City, Missouri, 238
miles east of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and 150 miles north of Little Rock, Arkansas.
White River Trout Fishing
Since completion of the big Bull Shoals Dam in 1951, the Arkansas White River has
developed into one of the most famous trout fisheries in the United States. Limit catches
of rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout are common-place throughout most of the year.
The size trout can grow to in these cold, clear waters is truly amazing, as the many
records the White River has produced attest.
The water in the White River below Bull Shoals Dam is so frigid that
even during the warmest summer months one can remain comfortably seated in a chair and
feel a nice cool breeze coming off the water. As far as we know, there is no other fishery
in the U.S. where you can take a continuous 4-day float trip and fish for rainbow, brown,
and cutthroat trout each day. As a convenience to our patrons, we stock all types of lures
on which these fish are caught. Our experienced guides are always ready to recommend the
baits, lures, or flies most likely to be effective at the time of your visit.
. . . and a happy group from the 1990's
Our fishing guides are thoroughly experienced. Many of them have service records of ten to
twenty years to their credit. We realize that good guides are extremely important to a
successful trip. When assigned to you, they will be at your service at all times. They
realize they are employed by you, not us. We act as an employment and collection agent for
each of our fishing guides. His fee is included in our flat-rate charge. For the
protection of our guides and ourselves, we ask that all customers deposit one-half the
trip price when making your reservations.
Our equipment is clean, complete, and well maintained. All you need bring is your fishing
tackle, a change of clothing, and a face towel. Wool shirts and a jacket will feel good at
night, even during July and August. All boats furnished by us are 20-foot flat-bottom
river boats designed to ride the waters in maximum safety. On all float trips that we
outfit completely, our flat rate price includes a motor on each boat as standard
Camping Float Trips
On overnight camp trips with parties of four or more persons, we have a flat-rate price
per person, per day. Price includes everything except bait, tackle, and license.

enjoy lunch along the way, we offer single day sight-seeing tours. Enjoy towering bluffs,
lush green hardwood forests, open pasture, and the riverside Ozark wildlife. Learn about
the fascinating boom and bust of Cotter, one of the most notorious rail towns of
railroading history. Experience all of this from the comfort of our private, guided tour
boats. No lines, no crowds! Up to six people can go in a single boat for sight-seeing
A cook-out, also called a shore lunch, is a prepared noon meal served on the river bank.
The cook arrives ahead of time, sets everything up, and starts preparing the meal before
you arrive. At noon shore lunches we serve the same high quality foods we prepare for our
overnight camp trip guests. If you also want your morning's catch cooked for lunch just
ask the cook. There is an extra charge for shore lunch cook-outs and price will depend on
the number of people in your group. If you want to just have your fish cooked for lunch to
go with the box lunch included in your trip price, tell your guide. He'll pull up on shore
and cook your trout for you.
The fishing season is open all year on all Arkansas White River game fish species.
However, because of weather conditions, we outfit overnight and day trips starting March
1, to around November 1.
We like for you to make your reservations as far in advance as
possible. We can take care of you better if we know your wishes well in advance of your
arrival. In making reservations always let us know how many persons will be in your party,
the number of days you wish to float, and whether you want to camp out, take single day
trips, or have a scenic tour of the White River. If you have been here before, and prefer
the services of a certain guide, ask for him and he will be assigned to you if possible.
Such requests always encourage the guides, and we are glad to give you their service. A
deposit of half the amount of your booked trip is required to confirm your reservation. Your deposit will be happily be refunded with a 14-day notice
of cancellation. If it is less than 5 days till we will need to charge full price.
This is to protect our guides from other trips that they have turned down.
Thanks for taking the time to browse our Web site. We
look forward to meeting you!
